Alto Saxophonist, author and activist Gilad Atzmon is the perfect choice for this anniversary show celebrating be-bop pioneer Charlie Parker’s 100th birthday.

The concert will focus on Parker’s beautiful series of recordings with string from the early 1950s and features Atzmon’s celebrated quartet the Orient House Ensemble and the celebrated Sigamos String Quartet.

As jazz critic Phil Johnson notes – “While most jazz tribute projects are dry as dust, Gilad Atzmon’s marvellous evocation of Charlie Parker’s legendary 1949 Verve recording with strings somehow succeeds in conveying Bird’s mercurial genius, as well as accurately representing what counts as some of the most profoundly beautiful music ever.”

This is part of Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival at St Georges Bristol, Great George St, Bristol BS1 5RR
